How do people manage to ignore the absolute filth that streamed from one of the secondary characters? Immaturity, I guess. And then actually give this film a good rating... What are people thinking these days? I liked the main character, and the hockey, that was it. Keep the kids away at all cost! Do yourself a favor... go read a book.

The fans certainly liked this movie more than the professional critics. Before people get up in arms, 'not bad, could be much better' is how I felt about it after leaving the theatre. During the screening I was cheering all the way! A little heavy on stereotypes, of course. Too bad the CBC didn't show one of those games nationally. It would have great seeing Don Cherry rhapsodizing joyously at Glatt's hockey skills.

Excellent movie, with almost potential to be a cult classic such as the Slap Shot franchise. There is graphic language, mainly from one character. There is a ton of hat tipping to Slap Shot. They even injected a quaint adorable love story into the plot as well, which had ZERO sex scene by the way just kissing and sleeping in the same bed together. Not to mention it is actually VERY accurate to how a goon's life is, especially on the ice. Surprised to see wall punching, weak ankles, etc. utilized. The writers of the film really did their homework... This coming from a former Goon. Loved the film. Have been telling everyone I know to go see it. Sad to see this has not gotten as much promotional backing as some other floppers *cough* John Carter *cough*

Pretty funny. Lots of crude humour. Definitely more fighting than there is hockey. If you're a hockey fan you'll love this one.

For anyone who said this movie was bloody and classless... You're right. However if you have ever been in a dressing room and know the foul language and amazing guy bonding that happens you will definitely love the movie and relate to it easily. Great film. Laughed the whole way through.

I decided to be a nice wife and let my hubby pick the movie. I'm so glad I did! I thought it was HILARIOUS! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Sean Scott was totally endearing and the rest of the cast were fantastic. Jay was a bit over the top but I'll forgive him that for bringing us this movie.

I heard all the comparisons between "Goon" and "Slapshot", so I went to see for myself. I was VERY disappointed. "Goon" may show the mindless graphic violence fans seem so dedicated to in hockey which was obvious in the earlier film, but the movie lacks any of the humour of "Slapshot". Save your money and rent/[...] the classic.

Can you say 'best date movie ever', no joke! Ladies take your man out, bring a wad of cash and cover the whole show with treats. It'll be the equivalent to us taking you to a ballet, except you'll actually enjoy this soft comedy love story, the ballet would be awesome if it was kung fu.

What a great movie. I'm putting it up there with Slap Shot. I found all the characters well done except for Jay Baruchel's. His character, which I'm guessing was the comic relief, was just plain annoying and not funny at all. Liev Scheiber was excellent and Sean William Scott did a fantastic job with his role. I play hockey myself and was pleasantly surprised and the game play and communication between players. Didn't like how all the goals where one player turning an entire team inside out everytime. None the less, a great movie and will be in my yearly rotation.

Just saw this and I gotta say it was pretty awesome and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Funny thing is, I don't even like hockey (yeah, I know, I'm a bad 'nuck) but I did truly enjoy this movie. Doug the Thug was a great character. Tough ass-kicker on the ice but very awkward and polite with everyone he meets. Liev Schreiber made a great Newfie rival for Doug in this as well. They really had an overall fantastic cast including the main characters, to the supporting cast to the cameos.

It's Slap Shot meets Fight Club. Seriously, it's easily as bloody as Fight Club, only The Goon has more swearing. Much of that comes from Jay Baruchel, who gives the most annoying performance of his career. Thankfully, he mostly disappears after the first twenty minutes. Seann William Scott is lovably good as the title enforcer, and Liev Schreiber is suitably menacing as his rival bad boy. The movie is made up mostly of hockey games and fights, each one bloodier (and toothier) than the last. The hockey itself is badly portrayed; every goal seems to be the result of a breakaway. And the fights are all longer and more brutal than 99% of the fights I've seen. Plus, the whole movie has that cheapo Canadian feel that gets a bit distracting at times. In the end, it's enjoyable enough due to its endearing star, mostly snappy dialog, and a few genuinely tense scenes. Not perfect, but I'll take it.

A screenplay of some surprising substance. There is alot of passion and emotion that went into this. Heard Jay Baruchel being interviewed about the movie. The maple leaf tattooed over heart is not fluke. Through the mayhem there is a heartfelt attempt to deliver a little but about what we are about as Canucks (or even Leafs) The humour doesn't alway work but the good stuff goes down like a rookie slagging Georges (nice cameo) Laraque for being a vegan. My 22 year old son and I were close to hyperventilation at some points. Seann William Scott brings a very unstiffler vulnerability to the lead character which fleshes out a twisted dental demolition derby courtesy of Fubar director Michael Dowse. Hell it it could even be date movie (or perhaps a relationship testing movie) Oh yeah nice to have Canadian cities playing Canadian cities with low down gritty sleety charm.

I liked it and found it very Canadian, but I really disliked the portrayal of hockey. I interact with international students and a few of them saw it and they basically consider hockey a skillless and savage sport as a result. As much as the aspects it presents are part of the game to a certain degree. I was mostly annoyed by the perception it creates.

It was a fun guy movie with not much plot. It seemed to try too hard at putting swearing in there; it seemed forced, for the most part. I'm not sure about comparisons to Slapshot; that movie had a plot, and character development where this one goes through the motions of developing characters and the plot is almost childish. I'm not sure about having a guy that obviously can't skate in the lead role of a hockey movie. Leave your brains at home and enjoy this for what it is: a movie about goons.

I liked this movie quite a bit. I think most people would enjoy this and EVERY Canadian would certainly enjoy this (as would any hockey fans from other countries) Alison Pill is great as the love interest and all the supporting cast (notably the Halifax teammates) are terrific. I love all the Canadiana in this film. I only just found out about Donair sauce in Halifax and that's great that it gets a shout-out. Not as strong as THE ROCKET but along the same lines of SLAPSHOT. Good fun. All in all, it's a good movie and worth seeing!

Not worth seeing... very poor language, no substance to the movie, free violence, foul language throughout the whole movie... Very immature jokes, this movie is pretty retarded. If I knew it was that bad, I wouldn't have payed a penny to see it. I can't understand that this movie made it to the theaters... it's very low class.

This movie is as much of an "endearing authentic snapshot of our national sport" as me peeing on the street at the Jazz Festival. It is a violent, vulgar, vicious, nasty, rank, bloody film with a simple story that grabs you and does not let go until the end. I LOVED IT! Judging from the audience reaction, they did too. Go have some fun and see this movie you won't be the only one laughing... a lot. (Not for the stuffed shirts or the squeamish)

Different than Slapshot, but a great movie just the same; didn't know it was based on a true story until we were at the theatre, which made me like it even more. Rich, crude language - yes; fighting & vilence - yes (remembr, it's about hockey "Goon's"); love story - yes (but not a fairy tale!); determination, committment, loyalty - yes, yes & yes. I'm glad that someone chose to show a tougher, darker side of Hockey (that does exist in other sports too) that is not often tackled, and while not perfect does a good job. Any alpha males that actually "lived" when they were younger will understand the need for an inevitable showdown. Some parts of the movie are hard to watch, but so is life. I'm glad I went to see it, and so was my girlfriend; who said it was good to hear me laugh again!

"Did we win?" Those words in the movie Goon epitomized the lead character. The actor portrayed a “dumb” guy who: followed simple truths, was honest to a fault, and was profoundly loyal. For anyone involved in team sports this movie will touch you. Put all the fights and blood (&Teeth) aside for a moment. Doug’s simple personality and beliefs pull everyone together—Team comes first! There are some tender stories that run throughout this flick and they are all held together with a thread of love, by Doug ‘The Thug’ Glatt. I marveled at the lead character’s performance as I have seen him in several other movies and he is usually a fast-talking smart@ss, as in Cop Out. In this role he was quite convincing. A few people will not enjoy the graphic nature but this is made clear in all the previews and the title itself. So you guys go see the Lorax. As an action movie we all know the storyline before we get to our seats. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. Even ex-NHLer Mr. George Laraque even makes a cameo appearance/fight.

Unlike the other 2 women over 50 who reviewed this film, I loved it! Take the view going in - that this is a gritty movie about old school farm team hockey, based on a real 'Goon' and not a calm serene story about golfers or chess players!! With a ton of Canadian flavor, this is a true down to earth hockey classic with plenty of laughs, warm fuzzy bits, and yes even lots of violence and bad words, with the 'hero' being a genuine nice guy who just wants to find his place in the world. Didn't expect to like it much really - only went because my son was involved in the filming of the movie. Glad to say I was very pleasantly surprised!!

I loved it! Well written, very funny in many different ways and simply showcased well hockey and everything that goes with it! Sean Scott just went up the ladder of actor/comedian for me. I've always thought he's hilarious but, in this movie, he showed he could be more diverse in his acting. Jay Baruchel in his role was a crazy hockey fanatic, which I believe in real life he also is (LOL!)

Fantastic comedy. This film is much funnier than the trailer suggests - mostly because of the R-rated humor - and much better than I expected it to be. The violence takes it to another level of craziness like Hobo with a Shotgun last year.
