They should have changed the name of this film to Extremely Loud and Incredibly Annoying, for that phrase sums up perfectly the major problem with the film; that its main character is a verbose, obnoxious, and thoroughly unlikeable brat who never seems to shut up. I was able to deal with it for a while but sooner or later you just wanna scream. I don't mean to pile on, for the young boy played by Thomas Horn, has a nearly impossible task of carrying an entire film and delivering screenwriter Eric Roth's page-long speeches at 100 miles an hour. Whats worse is all the supremely talented actors around him (Tom Hanks, John Goodman, Viola Davis, Jeffery Wright, Max Von Sydow) have almost nothing to do. I left out Sandra Bullock because surprisingly, her brief scenes, as the mother/widow are by far the highlight of this mess. Her tear-full moments are the only ones that ring true and she deserves the lion's share of the credit for keeping this disaster watchable. But even her efforts can't salvage this pompous, preachy love-letter to a post 911 New York.

It was not bad. A long and painful journey. It was more suited for TV I would say. Very interesting actually.

Excellent movie all about people dealing with people and coping with what life throws at them. Thomas Horn is incredible while Sandra Bullock, Tom Hanks, Max Von Sydow, Viola Davis and the rest of the cast added understated yet powerful performances. Not your average Hollywood movie... thank goodness!!!

Powerful! There were a couple of scenes when I was about to cry out for the hurt of it all. Also some superb tender moments between the old grandfather and his wife. The boy does a great job but so does grandpa!

Among the 5 best movies I've ever seen. Touching, different with twists and turns you wouldn't expect. Refreshingly different from the usual boring and predictable hollywood crap.

Thomas Horn gives a "tour de force" performance in his first major role in a poignant film about a child dealing with the loss of a parent and mentor in the 9/11 tragedy. Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and Max Von Sydow give sensitive, credible portrayals in a story full of emotion. A very good movie.

Great movie with excellent performances from the cast. Slow paced with good insights on the difficulties of dealing with special children. No melodrama, a big plus.

This film was unpredictible and brilliantly shot. You could really feel the emotions in each scene. There were funny scenes, cute scenes, and sad scenes, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend it to other people, and now I want to go read the book!

This was a thought provoking and emotional movie. Can't believe most everyone who wrote a review raved about the boy who played Oscar, rightly so, but didn't know his name. As well, his name, Thomas Horn, is not even listed in this ad. His acting was incredible and I can't think of a reason he shouldn't be nominated for an award.

I absolutely adored this movie! The little boy really played the part well. This movie was the perfect combination of comedy, and sadness. I cried at certain moments, and at other times I was laughing my head off. Really well done.

Forget about the fact that Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock are in this movie. The kid is the star. Don't forget the kleenex.

This is best movie I have seen in years. It has so much depth, but is also an emotional roller coaster. To me, a movie that can get you so involved is a rarity today and deserves the highest rating.

The plot has some apparent loose ends which are stitched together after twists and turns. There are emotion touching segments; immense views of the Big Apple; profound studies of people coping with their individual and private crises.

Best movie of the year. Thomas Horn nailed it in his role. Sandra Bullock and Viola Davis were wonderful. Great supporting cast of Wright, Hanks and Von Sydow. Good cinematography. Great all round cast. Sad, inspiring and beautiful. One of the best films to deal with the tragedy of 9/11. I would go see it again.

Yes, it was a good movie and had a message to send. The young boy who played Oskar did an outstanding job. Some people may have found the journey very long but I think it was worth seeing. It was certainly sad but at the end I think it turned out the way I thought it might. I was surprised to learn what the Mother had done and that was what turned the whole movie around. She was dealing with the grief of losing her husband but loved her son so much she knew she had to follow the journey also. Very good show...

Absolutely wonderful. For those bitter souls with heavy boots that found so much wrong with this film, I strongly encourage (no urge) you to read the book by Jonathan Safran-Foer, then see how wonderful this movie is. For those less inclined to read the story, everyone will interpret it differently so I still recommend seeing it and judging for yourself. Thomas Horn (Oskar's) acting is so accurate and real, that this alone makes it a contender for one of the best films in a long time. It is definitely worth the watch, and then absolutely worth the read (promise!)

A bit dark, but it all comes together in the end. Very touching story and hard for parents to sit through and watch this child, but very true and good. Oskar's performance was out of this world and a great role for Sandra Bullock as well... I even forgot that it was her.

This kid's acting abilities were superb. The story line was a little weak, but the kid pulls off a good display of a high functioning Autistic...

Overall, it was a good movie with some great acting. I thought they wasted John Goodman on a tiny role, and at times I found Oskar’s journey a bit tedious and too unbelievable. That being said, it was a worth watching film about a day none of us will ever forget.

Great movie! Touching and emotional. The movie gradually builds up the sentiment starting from a boy losing his father in 911 and reaches its high note at close to the end. Great directing and acting. A Oscar deserving movie.

I read the book several years ago and was amazed -- mostly because it was so different from the kind of novels I usually like (and different from ANY other novel I ever read!) and because the author, Jonathan Safran Foer, has written such a strange story in such a strange way that he has restored the meaning of the word "novelty" to the novel. The movie attempted to capture the intricate, bizarre spirit of the book and it mostly succeeded, to my surprise. Of course," The book was better than the movie," but the film adaptation of it was still able to grab the audience by the heart. The story gives one a lot to think about, and I recommend both the book and the movie.
