Subtract Meryl Streep's uncanny, brilliant, Oscar winning performance from this biopic and you aren't left with a whole lot worth talking about. The film jumps back and forth so often in time that it's impossible to really get immersed in anything. The result is a good deal of aggravation as seemingly important moments in Thatcher's life are glossed over or abandoned altogether. There are a few bravura speechifying moments by Streep, but those few only highlight the less than enthralling majority of the picture that spends far too much time with Thatcher at the end of her life and not enough time on her reign. Worth a look for Streep's performance alone, but on the whole just average.

Very, boring and monotonous. It just droans on about Margaret Thatcher's dementia. Overlooking most of her accomplishments. The only good thing in is is Meryl Streep and I'm very suprised she agreed to star in such a helpless, very poorly created movie. Bad, Bad, Bad.

I think a film about Margaret Thatcher should have been critical of her politics and shown her as the force of evil that it was. This film 'white' washes the crimes of the Tories and their racist, union-busting, war-mongering, exclusionist policies. It humanizaes a criminal woman. Technically, the script is very weak and the film is very badly directed.

This movie was rather boring. The most interesting part was how the iron lady dealt with her mental illness. People supported her but she was independent.

First up I must say an outstanding job by Meryl Streep! The flashback of events in the 80's brought back many memories. That being said, not sure I really enjoyed the layout of the storyline. It was painfully slow in places. Everything being said... I just had better expectations for this movie...

From the mixed reviews, I was not prepared to like this movie. I loved it and was sorry it ended - I actually googled her life afterwards. I was never a fan of MT but this movie gives her a human face. It was also a strong reminder that dementia does not respect fame or fortune. I know about her politics; I loved getting a glimpse of the flesh and blood person, warts and all.

Brilliant acting, of course - but more than that a brilliant depiction of fading into dementia, little by little, bolstered by some events, bewildered by others - everything contributed to this. The script is always the foundation of any film - but the sets, lighting, pacing (& probably the music, but I was too engrossed in all the other things to notice it) WONDERFUL MOVIE.

Should change title to THE BORING LADY. To think one review actually mentions the name of the person playing Ronald Reagan when in the movie, it is but an extra in a 2 second dance sequence. At least the movie ALI did not focus on the later years.

Not recommended for people under 35 yrs old. Why? Because it is boring and long, but I liked it, and can remember 1982 Falklands War which was quite frighten to people worldwide. Meryl certainly deserved that Oscar, just magnificent acting, makeup, hair style. Go see the movie just to see her acting, she certainly is great. Jim Broadbent was also very good. No one in the theater walked out before the end.

Another viewer wrote "Streep was better than the movie" and I concur. This film missed an opportunity but is an entertaining portrait nonetheless.

I love almost anything with Meryl Streep and she did a fantastic job of being Margaret Thatcher and deserved her latest Academy Award but there needed to be a lot more of the story of how Thatcher operated as Prime Minister and how she ended up ousted by her own cabinet and party... this was a sketchy outline for anyone not up on the recent history of the late 20th century and how Thatcher affected her country and why so many were unhappy with her then. The director and writer missed an opportunity to explain why she was an important figure in modern history. Streep was better than the movie.

A stellar performance by Streep, totally worthy of the Oscar. She is Lady Thatcher... not just an actress thrust into the part. Well worth seeing, possibly more than once.

I went to see this purely for the Meryl Streep performance which was amazing. It was hard to find Meryl in the make-up and the voice. Poignant portrait of how old age and health is unstoppable even if you are "iron". Learned more about Margaret Thatcher and am now interested in reading additional information. I enjoyed it and thought it is better than many of the critics and movie viewers have said. It is worth it alone to see the great actress Meryl Streep.

An excellent movie all around: great acting, great casting, well-written, good score. Meryl Streep gives a remarkable performance here, certainly deserving of the Oscar she won. It isn't just the amazing makeup, it's her voice, body language, she literally channels Margaret Thatcher. As far as the way the movie is written, I thought they did a great job, showing Thatcher as she is, unfortunately, today, and flashing back to her earlier life. Definitely a special movie, up there with the best in recent times. Well worth seeing.

I went to this movie to learn about Margaret Thatcher's rise and her contributions. I expected to be moved and inspired. THIS MOVIE WAS TERRIBLE. I don't think I've ever walked out during a movie in my life. It was an insulting depiction, and that's coming from someone who doesn't even know the first thing about Margaret Thatcher. They just showed her dementia with intermittent and meaningless flashbacks. Put it this way, I was in the theatre with two elderly couples and with just 30 mins left in the film, I couldn't bear anymore. I walked out, and even the elderly couple followed my lead. Lol even they couldn't stand it. There was nothing beneficial in this film. I took nothing away from it. The script sucked too.

Very well written and a great performance by Streep (Baroness Thatcher) This movie is especially interesting to watch now because of the echos we can see of the current crisis.

I apologize in advance to septuagenarians and even older folks. I was not at all interested in seeing a movie about an elderly woman with early onset dementia. What was the point? Except perhaps for a brief mention, who cares what Margaret Thatcher eats for breakfast today? The movie should have spent way, way, way more time on Thatcher's political career.

Meryl Streep was tremendous, again. But the title should have been "The Tin Lady". Why the people who directed and produced this film would spend so much time on her dementia I cannot understand!! Mrs. Thatcher chewed up and spit out the establishment on her way to PM and people and politicians the world over gained much respect for her. Accept her politics or not there has not been a more courageous 1st world politician that I can remember. She made difficult and unpopular choices for many years, a credit to her but no one chooses dementia, why portray it as this film did? I cannot understand.

Great movie even though I would have preferred that it would talk more about Margaret's accomplishments, and her life during that period, the period of struggle and when she was primer minister, than making flashbacks of the life of ourdays. But in general, I appreciated the movie, as well as the actors.

Another movie by Hollywood leftists trying to diminish one of the greatest conservative politicians in recent western world history who is now being vindicated because of the debt crisis in Europe and her accurate assessment of how "europezation" would turn out. Hollywood hates to portray any successes of conservatives and this one is no exception. Having said that, I would have rated the movie much lower if not for the brilliant performance of Meryl Streep.

Meryl does it again with a moving, accurate portrayal of a very determined, ambitious woman. The make-up was uncanny. Even in the very closest close-ups of her, she looked old and at times, ravished. I loved the way she moved, so like an elderly woman, uncertain of her footing. Great work!

Meryl Streep is reason alone to see THE IRON LADY. The movie might be lacking in some areas but such an indelible performance should not be missed under any circumstances. Miss Streep so inhabits the character of Ms Thatcher to such a degree that I cannot fathom how she did it, and how she does it, one incredible performance after the next. SHE REALLY DESERVES AND BETTER GET THE OSCAR. SHE HAS 17 NOMINATIONS, but hasn't won an Oscar in 30 years. That is regrettable. I love Viola Davis, but her performance in THE HELP, great as it is , is more in vein of a supporting role. I will be very, very ticked off if Meryl does not win this year. It would be a travesty of justice. Mind you she has already won so many awards for THE IRON LADY, as said, but THE OSCAR would be the full validation. By the way, she won best actress from The New York Film Critics and a slew of other awards for THE IRON LADY. On Feb. 12 at BAFTA... the British Academy Awards, she took best actress and the Berlin Film Festival bestowed its golden bear LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD on Meryl some weeks ago. She is without doubt one of the greatest actors ever. Her roomfull of awards testify to this.

As always, Meryl Streep is in fine form. The story itself dwelled too much on her dementia and talking to her dead husband. Somewhat boring and depressing. Would have liked to see more of her remarkable political career over the 11 year span she was Prime Minister.

Personnaly I thought it was kind of sad that the entire movie was about a human being getting old, forgetting, losing memory etc, etc, etc, I hate it when the character goes back and forth in history and present. I would've liked to have seen more political scene from that movie, very average, however Streep plays an excellent character.

I liked the use of flashbacks - events we actually lived through for us, older folks and also, for the younger set, a view of what women had to contend with in the not so distant past - Margaret T. fully deserved her title - and Meryl Streep is a magnificient performer.

If you enjoyed either "The Queen" or "The King's Speech", you'll probably find that this historical drama exceeds both of these excellent movies. I was surprised by how much of the movie is focussed on Thatcher as she currently lives (a recluse, suffering from dementia) Meryl Streep gives one of the best performances I've seen from her in a long time.

The acting was great... But the movie was awful, the previews lead you to believe that you're going to learn how she moved up and became the Iron lady. Instead the movie makes it clear that the iron lady is reduced to being a sick old woman and in the end that's all that matters.

As usual Meryl Streep did a great portrayal of the subject- sure to win the best actress award at the Oscars. It was also very educational pertraining to the events during her term, the kind of person Margaret was and how she succeeded as a woman leader among men. Then there is the realization of what might happen to many of us- dementia and loss of cognitive powers.

Meryl Streep as usual is AMAZING... a 10/10 for her. She creates art. I had no expectation and so I was able to go with the flow and allow the director and writers to take me with them. It is difficult to cover a famous person's life. We can only catch a glimpse in a movie. As a much hated individual, I felt they tried to show us the person and I think they succeeded. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was never a friend of Margaret Thatcher - but I truthfully wonder what motive led to make this movie. To watch for almost 2 hours a senile woman who looks back at her life as British Premier Minister with very little on content of such woman's political life is a waste of time and money.

A 10 for Meryl Streep who is absolutely wonderful in this third rate, tired and boring movie which only just merits a 3. A movie which for 80% of the time concentrates on a still living public figure's slow descent into dementia and then crassly attempts to justify its lack of taste by a few badly screened and generally disconnected flasbacks is neither entertaining nor of historical interest. Don't waste your money on this one, if anything it was a parody of the person it was meant to portray.

So much potential wasted. Not to mention the wasted talents of Meryl Streep. Just one hour of Margaret Thatcher's career would have been far more exciting than this entire movie. Technically it was probably worthy of attention but it definitely lost our interest when it came to entertainment value. Who cares about some old lady's hallucinations as compared the historic story of the the real Iron lady. Very disappointing.

Meryl Streep's performance is excellent and the way the movie is made, the intertwine of present and flashbacks of M. Tatcher's life shows great talent. Also the music is appropriate.

I had heard rave reviews about The Iron Lady, but was disappointed when I finally went to see the film. It focused heavily on Margaret Thatcher as an elderly woman struggling to hold on to reality, and very little on her career (a story which is fascinating, and could have made an excellent movie) The clips of the period when she was in office require substantial background knowledge of historical events that happened during the period, and for those not well versed in everything Thatcher the storyline can be difficult to follow. I walked out of the movie feeling much a little depressed, since the film focused so heavily on aging and dementia. It was in no way the inspiring film I had expected to see.

Bravo, what a great acting from Meryl Streep and others! Everything was perfect: cinematography, music, the time-lines of the the story, back and forth in an aging mind, etc... Unfortunately the last generation (under 30) doesn't know who Margaret Thatcher is. And this is a shame. Excellent movie, showing real life story and history!

Reviews for this film have been mixed. It is mostly criticized for not being a full biography of this austere figure that like it or not marked modern history. It is true that it is not a true biopic but rather a portrait of an aging person who once tasted glory and now lives through her slow decline physically and mostly mentally. The film is fairly neutral as to the judgment of the Iron Lady’s achievements. The moment in the film that shook me the most was her candid admission that humans are not equal and that the privileged should not be ashamed of their status. Meryl Streep’s acting is magnificent. Her mastery of dialects and the way she wears her character is very impressive to watch. For a critical biopic, we will have to wait.

Boring. The real Thatcher on the news channels had more appealing and could catch more attention than this movie. I love Meryl Streep but if you are expecting an epic movie to immortalize an important character in modern story and show you some insights and maybe inspire you. This is gonna be a fiasco. The only remarkable thing was the makeup artists that did an amazing job. It could have been much more better. I was expecting of something like the "the King's Speech" sort of. Too bad I couldn't get my money back.
