So awful it was almost a parody of abstract modern dance (but lacking any humor) Seriously - someone shovelling dirt onto an emaciated dancer who looks nearly dead? People who look terribly ill shuffling around with their eyes closed bumping into walls and falling down? Horrid German vocals from the Eisenhower era? Depressed dancers staring blankly into the camera with their comments about the sickening developments played as a soundtrack? Kept hoping it would get better, but it didn't. Really regret not walking out after the first 5 minutes.

If you just want to have an idea of what the movie is like, or if you are an architect only interested in Wim Wenders choice of neat architectural spaces, just watch the trailer, cause the best scenes are in there. But if you are interested in contemporary dance or if you want to know who Pina was then go watch it otherwise you will be bored and would be waiting for it to end.

A very good film! Somehow, Pina's signature piece - Cafe Muller was not well edited or filmed. I don't know why, but the rest was excellent. All dancers would like to have Wim Wenders to film their dances.

A feast for eyes & ears. Wim Wenders delivered another masterpiece. The dancers are exceptional, as is everything about this movie. It is the first time I ever enjoyed 3D. What a treat!

Pina is overindulgent and overly long for the real amount of material of interest. In the context of dance, which I love, there just wasn't enough material of interest. Long sections of boredom and a curious decision by the director to have each of the dancers explain their devotion to their teacher with barely a smile throughout the entire piece. My over riding sentiment during and after the movie was one of self indulgence and "too bad". This could have been good. Having said all the above, there were interesting parts and concepts, but not enough to rescue this movie. Don't pay to see it. With the cost of the 3D glasses on top of admission, (which wasn't really necessary) your money is better spent with a loved one over a good dinner.

The film has so much going on, so many layers of meaning, so many things to absorb and such astonishingly evocative dancing that I knew I needed to see it again.

The dancing was haunting and mesmerizing. I can't get many of the dances out of my head for the past week. I don't know how it was done with the talent and skill of Wim Winders and Pina Bratsch.

An extraordinary film and beautifully shot and edited. Everything about this movie is close to brilliant. (I am a very selective viewer and critic of movies)

The best use of 3D I've ever seen, totally enhanced the movie rather than distracted from it. Beautifully shot, and you could tell every dancer featured was so passionate about what they do. I thought it was a lovely way to honor Pina Bausch and her amazing work. Obviously it's not for everyone, but hopefully people can still appreciate it even if they don't like it.

I read the comments of viewers and got sucked into viewing this somewhat disturbing, morose rendition of blind iconic idolatry of old dancers to their mentor. Not at all what we were expecting and left the theatre feeling very depressed and disappointed. Certainly as a documentary it may have had some value but actually paying money to [...] see this was a waste of monetary and emotional resources.

I've seen a little bit of modern dance - not totally familiar or unfamiliar with it, so I feel qualified to say that no matter how you feel about modern dance in general - there are moments in this film that will knock your socks right outta this universe! It sometimes slows down for a minute or two, but there's enough heart-stopping joy/fear/rage/love/anxiety being captured in the other moments that it hardly matters.

Especially for fans of modern/contemporary dance, it's a feast for the eyes and ears. I enjoyed it much more than seeing Danzon live on stage. Offers insights into the way Pina works with her dancers. Really great scenes from 'Sacre du printemps' and other productions, love to see it in 3D.

The dance is extraordinary as is the film making. It is visual poetry, so far up the lyric axis it's hard to see the ground. The dancers were told by Pina to "be more crazy" and "surprise me" and that pretty well summarizes the message of the film for me.

If I could give this film 12 out of 10 I would, but I can't. Simply put, this film ranks among the very best I have ever seen in my life. And in looking at some of the other reviews, I am not alone in this view either. So just what makes it so good? For starters its honesty. It rips away the veneer of pretense that shrouds human life, and does so not with a lot of words, but through the body language of dance. But not just any dance. This is raw, guttural animal instinct on display, exposing the side of our nature we prefer to keep hidden from the kids and from ourselves in the stuffiness of our polite society, which compared to the Victorian era isn't all that stuffy to start with. And yet it still is. This film brings choreography into the natural world in a way that is so novel, it melts the barriers we erect between contexts, revealing to the viewer what's really going on in the human world on another level. It's a mirror into the human soul really. So get ready to see your reflection. It just might make you a little bit freer.

This movies speaks true to so many feelings we can't find words for. Along with the dance, there is beautiful imagery, great and consistent 3D effects, and such a lovely sense of humor.

It's great to see such an inspiring group of dancers! Don't go see it if you don't like contemporary dance.

There are many reasons why this movie is a must see. I don't necessarily like dance but in this movie they share more than that, the director manages to the dance to make you feel their world. The usage of the 3D was the best that I have seen so far in any movies before. The pace of the movie is fast enough for me (I don't like dance) to follow with passion and interest.

The dancing was incredible. The story line was abstract, more of a memoir than a solid story line. I would see it for the dancing, to get inspired to dance.

This is a STUNNING film. An absolute masterpiece. Director's (Wim Wenders) work, DOP work, art department, locations, and, of course, most of all PINA and her DANCERS, which is the subject of the film. Pina Bausch's work of drama dance is on the same, if not higher, level as the masterpieces of another drama dance genius, Bob Fosse. Their approach is apparently very different. Bob Fosse "made" his dancers "by force", while Pina Bausch pulled genius of their dancers from themselves, which, I think, is better. Also, Bob Fosse was making "entertaining shows" turning them into highest art, while Pina Bausch was ONLY interested in highest art to start with - in human subject. That's, I think, a general unfortunate for North America typical difference between North American and European approaches.

Outstanding presentation of modern dance created by the great German Pina Bausch. I had the fortunate experience of attending one of her dance recital in Germany.

An excellent movie for art lovers, dance lovers. It was amazing and brathtaking to see the dancers in 3d. I loved when every dancer expressed themself about Pina, how they loved her and how she changed their life and because of her they became better performers!

I did not know the work of Pina Bausch. I had seen the preview and thaught that it looked very beautiful so I went and saw the movie. It was a wonderful experience. Music, choreography, picture, everything was as I had suspected, absolutely gorgeous. Everyone should see this and experience beauty!

This is a documentary made by Win Wenders of the genius German choreagrapher & dancer Pina Bausch after she passed away in 2009. There is as much genius in her works as Picasso in his paintings, Helmut Newton in her photography and Martin Scorsese or Wim Wender in cinema. Too bad this 3D technology does not work for people with the same eye affliction as me: some 3D technology works with me but not this one; I would like to see this movie in a regular movie format.
